Free NAPLAN Practice Questions (Year 3)
Free NAPLAN Year 3 practice questions spanning Language Conventions and Numeracy — tap to answer, get instant feedback and worked explanations.
The best way to take the mystery out of NAPLAN is to let your child actually try a few questions. Below are free NAPLAN Year 3 practice questions in the real style — spanning spelling, grammar and numeracy. Tap a choice to grade it instantly and read the explanation. No sign-up, no cost, nothing to install.
How to use these
Sit alongside your child and let them tap the answers. When one is wrong, the point isn't the mistake — it's the short chat about why. A single well-understood question does more than a page of silent drilling. Keep it light; this is Year 3.
Language Conventions — spelling and grammar
NAPLAN's Language Conventions section covers spelling, grammar and punctuation. Here are two in the real format — one spelling, one grammar.

Numeracy — number and problem solving
Year 3 Numeracy is done without a calculator and leans on number sense and careful reading of the problem. Try these two.

What the test looks like
Year 3 NAPLAN has four sections — Reading, Writing, Language Conventions and Numeracy — sat in a two-week March window. Since 2023 it runs online and uses adaptive testing (questions adjust to your child's answers), with the one exception that Year 3 Writing is done on paper. The questions above mirror the online multiple-choice style your child will meet on the day.
Where to go next
- Try a full free set. Our free NAPLAN Year 3 practice test covers Reading, Language Conventions and Numeracy with instant feedback — still no account needed.
- See the real interface. The official NAPLAN public demonstration site shows the actual test tools.
- Read the overview. NAPLAN Year 3: what to expect walks through all four sections calmly.
Remember NAPLAN is diagnostic, not competitive — it shows where your child is now, not whether they pass. A few relaxed practice questions build familiarity and confidence, which is the most any preparation should aim for at this age. Have an older child too? Try the free Year 5 practice questions next.
